Nursing is widely recognized as a noble profession. We care for our patients and put ourselves at the front of the line with barely any time to sleep or eat.
There is no bigger health threat today than COVID-19. Positive cases continue to rise and patients are outnumbering healthcare professionals in hospitals. Not only is there a risk of contracting the virus, we are even more vulnerable because of the physical and emotional toll on our bodies.
While I help aspiring nurses fulfill their dreams through QD Nurses’ flashcards and review notes for NCLEX reviewers, I have also been working as a nurse in the frontlines.
As a frontliner in the middle of this pandemic, I have seen how it’s affected the lives of our patients and healthcare workers. It is exhausting on different levels but highly fulfilling at the same time.
Hearing a patient or their caretakers say “thank you” makes it all worth it, but the bureaucratic barriers prevent us from getting immediate access to supplies we need to keep going.
Within the United States, the New York metro area has been identified as the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare workers suffered tremendously because of the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
While many efforts have been made to donate KN95 or N95 masks, complete personal protective equipment is necessary to significantly reduce the risk of infection for healthcare workers.
At the peak of the pandemic in March and April, I was fortunate enough to be one of the earliest recipients of the PPE Relief Packages from the PPE Relief Initiative.
In partnership with The Promise Society, the PPE Relief Initiative delivers free PPE Supply Kits to healthcare workers fighting COVID-19 in the New York and New Jersey metro area.
Their goal was to initially support family, friends, and colleagues in the area until they realized they wanted to help even more healthcare workers.
Each PPE Supply Kit contains a range of medical supplies, including the following:
- 3M reusable respirators with P100 filters
- Reusable isolation gowns
- Face shields
- Goggles
- Glasses
- Gloves
- Reusable surgical caps
- Hand sanitizer
- Ear savers
- Reusable respirators
- Hair covers
- Shoe covers
Each worker’s or hospital’s needs may vary greatly from week to week, so it’s important to make sure we have everything we need to face whatever comes our way.
In their latest update, the PPE Relief Initiative has raised $23,957 of their $30,000 goal in two months, 3,600 PPE items in total included across their kits, 2,000+ miles driven to deliver those kits, and helped 90 medical facilities in New York and New Jersey.
They’re currently on their last leg of their mission to help their last 100 healthcare workers across New York and New Jersey with Personal Protective Equipment.
As I have personally benefited from their PPE Supply Kits and have seen the sincerity and heart of their mission, QD NURSES fully supports the PPE RELIEF INITIATIVE.
If you want to help our healthcare workers win the battle against COVID-19, you can also donate directly to the PPE Relief Initiative on their GoFundMe page.
100% of every dollar will go to the purchase, assembly, and delivery of PPE Supply Kits to healthcare workers. As The Promise Society is recognized as a qualifying tax-exempt organization by the IRS, your gift may be deductible for your federal income tax.
Join us in our mission to fight COVID-19 and provide full protection to nurses and other healthcare workers who are in direct contact with COVID-19 patients.
As QD Nurses equips aspiring nurses and those pursuing further nursing education with the knowledge to become better nurses, the PRI is making sure our healthcare heroes are well protected.
