Aminoglycosides
Aminoglycosides are contraindicated in clients with hypersensitivity to amino glycosides. It is essential to use amino glycosides cautiously in clients with neuromuscular disorders and pregnant women.
Aspirin
Aspirins are contraindicated in clients with bleeding conditions and children with viral illnesses. It is essential to KNOW that giving aspirin to a child with viral illnesses can cause Reye’s syndrome.
Digoxin
Do not give digoxin to a patient with ventricular fibrillation. Ventricular fibrillation is the cause of cardiac arrest.
Dobutamine
Dobutamine’s contraindicated in clients with idiopathic hypertropic subaortic stenosis.
Inamrinone
Do not give inamrinone to a client with sulfite allergy.
Iodine-containing Drugs
If a client has allergies to shellfish, then the client may be allergic to drugs that contain iodine.
Magnesium Sulfate
Do not administer magnesium sulfate in normal saline solution.
Metformin
Do not give metformin to someone who is going to undergo procedures with contrast dye, because it can cause acute renal failure.
Opioids
Opioids are contraindicated with clients with increased intracranial pressure because it can hide changes in level of consciousness. Change in level of consciousness is a huge sign to watch for clients with increased intracranial pressure.
Propranolol
Propranolol is contraindicated in clients with bronchial asthma.
