Stage 1: Effacement and dilation of cervix – longest stage
- Stage 1: Latent Phase – Cervical dilation is 1 to 4 cm.
- Stage 2: Active Phase – Cervical dilation is 4 to 7 cm.
- Stage 3: Transitional Phase – Cervical dilation is 8 to 10 cm.
Stage 2: Expulsion of fetus – Cervical dilation is complete.
Stage 3: Separation of placenta – Placental separation and expulsion occurs.
Stage 4: Physical recovery – 1 to 4 hours after delivery
